Welcome To The Apothecary

Where all products are handmade with love, blessings, and a special kind of magic.
These items are all made by me, to support you on your own unique journey in becoming stable in self.

The products that I share with you are made in small batches, in a home kitchen setting. The plants that I use are responsibly harvested and sourced to the best of my knowledge. Some plants I harvest or grow myself. Some are purchased from companies that I have found to be trustworthy and reliable.

The medicinal oils that I offer here are made in the (modern) traditional āyurvedic way, which I learned from my dear teacher, Dr. Rosy Mann. I began making medicinal oil for myself many years ago, and am honored to offer them to you in this way. May you feel loved and nourished by their sacred magic.

The plants have wisdom to share. They want to collaborate with us. They want us to listen, and to learn reverence and respect for all of mother earth’s beings. May we take only what we need and never more. May there always be enough for the next being who passes by.

The house is filled with the subtle aroma of eucalyptus and rose and warm oil as I make this batch of Nasya Herbal Nose Oil. This is a spiritual practice. The kitchen is a sacred space.

Nasya Herbal Nose Oil

Herbal Resource Guide

I have created an Herbal Resource Guide to support you on your journey of healing and discovery. This guide is meant to serve as a companion while you come into relationship with plants, herbs, spices, food, and your own intuition. The herbs, spices, and oils listed are ones that I use most often in the medicinal potions and teas that I create and share with you here.

Herbal Oils For Skin & Senses

Nasya Herbal Nose Oil
1 oz. dropper bottle
$18.50

  • The daily practice of nasya (oil in the nose) protects and coats the mucus membranes of the nasal and sinus passages. The oil acts as a filter to protect against toxic inhalants and allergens. The practice supports optimal respiratory function, immunity, and relief of congestion and tension in the head and face. It also improves vision and promotes clarity of mind.

  • Administration of oil in the nose can be done 2-5 times per day. It is ideal to apply the oil at night before bed and in the morning before eating. Depending on your lifestyle and current circumstances, application of oil may be repeated through the day.

For a quick and easy application, oil can be applied with your pinky finger or a q-tip and rubbed into the nostril, followed by some deep sniffing.

Follow the instructions below for a deeper application.

Lay down on the bed, with your head tilted back. Or tilt the head back while seated.

Place 2-5 drops into each nostril, and sniff in deeply several times. 2-3 drops is usually a good standard amount. Start of with less and increase appropriately.

Remain lying down for about 5 minutes. This is a great time to massage the face, especially the sinus area. If you are seated, keep the head back for as long as is comfortable without hurting the neck.

You will likely feel/taste the oil in the back of your throat. This is to be expected. If this is the case you can gargle with some warm water.

  • Sesame Oil, Brahmī, Eucalyptus, Rose, Tulsi, Love

Karna Purana Herbal Ear Oil
1 oz. dropper bottle
$18.50

  • Karna Purana (oil in the ears) is soothing to the ear canal itself as well as the entire nervous system. The practice can be done with small amounts of oil (1-3 drops) on a regular basis or with larger amounts of oil when indicated for more acute conditions. This practice helps remove wax, prevent hearing loss, and sooth ringing of the ears. It can also help with vertigo, migraines, depression, anxiety, and neurological disorders. Applying oil into the ear canal can also help induce sound sleep and calm the body-mind-spirit.

  • The practice is best done at night before bed.

Warm the oil by putting the glass dropper bottle into a mug of hot water. Test the temperature before applying to the ear.

Put a towel over your pillow and lay on your left side so that the right ear is facing up.

Place 1-3 drops of the warm oil into the ear. Lie on your left side for about 10 minutes while the oil penetrates and nourishes the ear canal.

Turn over to your right side so that the left ear is facing up, and repeat the process.

Some of the oil will be absorbed and some will flow out when you switch sides. If oil remains in the ear canal in a manner that feels like the ear is blocked (like when you have water in the ear), use your hand as a suction over the ear to help release the oil.

Ideally you will be going to sleep after this practice. Do not go outside into the cold or wind after this application.

  • Sesame Oil, Tulsi, Lavender, Ashwagandha, Love

For details about each of the herbs, please see the herb resource guide I have created to support you on your journey of healing and discovery.

Momma & Baby Massage Oil
4 oz. bottle
$35.00

  • Oil massage is considered an important daily practice for calming and nourishing the body-mind-spirit and prevention of dis-ease. The heavy qualities of the oil are calming and nourishing to the entire nervous system.

Baby massage is said to be key in giving strength, protection, and nourishment to the baby in the early days of life. It is said to oil your baby daily for 42+ days after birth, even up to one year. The practice of oiling a new baby is a calming to the baby as well as the person applying the oil. It is also a very sweet way to bond with a new little being.

Oil massage is an essential part of recovery and nourishment for birthing parents as well as all other parents and caregivers involved. The first 42+ days after giving birth are a delicate and sacred time for both the baby and the new parents.

It is especially important to nourish and support parents or caregivers who are breastfeeding and those who are waking at all hours of the day and night to care for the new little one.

  • Baby Massage:
    Oil should always be warm.

The bones in the head will be soft and not fully in place just after birth. Oiling of the head (gently) will help to strengthen these skull bones, nourish the brain and assist with proper fusion of the bones.

For the first week, be VERY gentle, especially on the head. Just put some warm oil on the head and gently rub the area with slow circular motions. On the body, softly apply the oil in a soothing downward motion, no vigorous strokes.

After the first week, you do not need to be as careful, but you will still want to be very gentle.

Still being gentle, you can do more of a full body massage. Circular on the head, light up and down strokes on the long bones/limbs, and circular motions on the joints. Don't forget the feet, toes, hands, and fingers.

You can bathe baby after the oil massage, but you do not need to. They will be slippery! Clothes will get a little oily, but you'll wash them, and it's fine.

Do not give baby a massage and then take them directly out into the cold or wind. They should be warm and cozy after massage.

    Momma Massage:
Self massage is a big part of āyurvedic self care. Doing self massage or having a someone you trust give you a massage is extremely valuable for nourishing, calming, and rejuvenation. Even just parts of the body like the pelvis, feet, head, face, etc. You can benefit from the oil massage even if it is not a full body event.

    Oil should be warm.

Massage the oil into your skin, giving each part of your body adequate attention.

Use up and down strokes over the limbs and circular strokes around the joints. Give clock-wise strokes to the abdominal area (going up the right side and down the left).

In general, strokes go towards the heart. You can start with the feet and work inward, go to the hands and work inward, and then focus on the trunk of the body.

When/if massaging your scalp, apply oil to the crown of the head and massage the scalp. If you are concerned about getting oil in your hair, simply skip the head until you get more acquainted with the practice.

Take a warm bath or shower after your massage. This allows the pores and channels of the body to open, encouraging the oil to penetrate deeper into the tissues.

Don't use soap to wash off the oil. Just wash the "essentials"; underarms, genitals, etc. If you have oil in your hair, apply shampoo before wetting your head to cut the oil more effectively.

After showering, there should be a thin protective, moisturizing layer of oil left on the skin.

  • Sesame Oil, Ashwagandha, Bala, Licorice Root, Lavender, Love

Respiratory & Immune Support Formula
2 oz. bag of powdered herbs
$20.00

  • This is a powdered herb formula, which can be used like a tea in hot water or mixed with honey. Each ingredient has been carefully selected in consideration of supporting and soothing the respiratory system and overall immune support. This compound formula has antiviral and blood cleansing properties, serves as a source of vitamin C, and has a special affinity for the respiratory system.

It may be helpful in soothing the mucus membranes and supporting the body when there is a cough, congestion, soar throat, or other cold-like symptoms.

A small amount of raw cane sugar is used as carrier to direct the herbs deep into the appropriate bodily tissues. Even with this small amount of sugar and other sweet herbs you will likely find the formula to have a bitter taste.

NOTE- It is suggested that people with high blood pressure be mindful of how much licorice root they consume, which is one of the ingredients in this formula.

  • Infused In Hot Water:

1/4-1/2 tsp. mixed in about 2-4 ounces of hot water 1-3 times daily. Pour the hot water over the herbs and allow it to steep until cool enough to drink, but still warm. Add about 1/8 tsp. honey if desired.

    Mixed With Honey:

Mix 1/4-1/2 tsp. of the herbs with about 1/8-1/4 tsp. honey and simply eat it off the spoon.

You can also make a larger amount mixed into the honey and use it throughout the day/week. This can be a helpful way to use it if you are on the go and not able to boil water throughout the day.

The honey will act as a carrier to bring the herbs into the deep tissues of the body. It is also an expectorant and can help to melt, break up, and expel phlegm or clear congestion.
